נָתַזPi. נִתֵּז (sec. verb of נָזָה, v. Kidd.25a) 1) (neut. verb) to squirt, fly off. Kidd.25a הרי … מַוֶּה ונִחְּזָה הזאהוכ׳ (perh. Nif.) if a person (priest) was sprinkling for purification, and the sprinkling flew upon his (the unclean persons) mouth. Y.Yoma III, 41a top, a. e. מְנַתְּזִין, v. נִיצֹוץ. B. Kam.II, 1 היו … מנ׳וכ׳ if stones flew off from under the animals feet; a. e. 2) (act. verb) to cause to fly off. מָנַע(b. h.) ( to cut off, to withhold, refuse, refrain. Pes.113b המוֹנֵעַ מנעלים מרגליו he who denies shoes to his feet. Keth.96a המונע תלמידו מלשמשו כאילו מונעוכ׳ he who denies to his pupil the privilege of attendance, is considered as if denying kindness to him. Ber.10a, sq. אל יִמְנַע עצמו מן הרחמים must not cut himself off from (despair of) divine mercy. Gen. R. s. 76, end (ref. to Job 6:14) מָנַעְתָּ מרעךוכ׳ thou (Jacob) didst refuse kindness to thy friend (Job); a. fr. Nif. נִמְנַע 1) to restrain ones self; to shrink. Eduy. IV, 8; Yeb. Ḥull.74a מיתה עושה נ׳וכ׳ the natural death of an animal causes the hanging limb (דִּלְדּוּל) to be considered as if detached (in life-time, so that it does not come under the law of נְבֵלָה), but slaughtering does not (and the dangling limb is considered as a part of the slaughtered animal.
